1 Set up Instructions

The following is only a suggestion. Expert clinical judgement shall be used in choosing the suitable Closed Suction System based on Endotracheal tube or Tracheostomy tube size.

  1. Remove Closed Suction System from pouch.
  2. Attach Control Valve to vacuum source through suction tube.
  3. Depress Control Valve and set the suction flow at desired level.
  4. Connect the Swivel Adaptor to Endotracheal tube or Tracheostomy tube.
  5. For the patient with ventilator circuit, attach ventilator socket to the 15-Male port on the swivel adaptor, ensure Irrigation port and Lavage port are closed.
  6. Attach proper date sticker to Control Valve.
  7. Dispose Closed Suction System after 24 hours.
2 Suction Procedure
  1. Grip Swivel Adaptor with one hand, and insert catheter down into Endotracheal tube or Tracheostomy tube with thumb and forefinger of other hand to desired depth.
  2. Until the desired depth achieved, depress the Control Valve intermittently to apply suction.
  3. If the secretion is thick, inject some distilled water (or 0.9% saline) through Lavage port for dilution, then apply suction after dilution.
  4. After suction, withdraw the catheter slowly with suction activated in straight motion to avoid kinking until Black Marking on catheter is just fully visible.
  5. Occlude Control Valve to flush catheter by injecting flush solution through Irrigation port.
  6. Lift and turn Thumb piece 180° to lock position on Control Valve for safety concerns.
! Caution

  • Do not resterilize.
  • Use date sticker to identify the replacing date.
  • If there is any breakage on plastic sleeve, please replace immediately.

Yes, the system is compatible with both Endotracheal and Tracheostomy tubes, provided the correct size is selected.
What is the purpose of the black marking on the catheter?
The black marking indicates when the catheter is fully withdrawn into the protective sleeve, ensuring it is clear of the patient's airway.
Is the system provided sterile?
Yes, each system is individually packed and sterilized. It should not be re-sterilized after use.
What should I do if the protective sleeve is damaged?
If there is any visible breakage or compromise to the plastic sleeve, the system must be replaced immediately to ensure closed-circuit integrity.
Does the control valve have a safety lock?
Yes, the thumb piece can be lifted and turned 180° to the lock position to prevent accidental suctioning.
